Carrots Are Delicious And Good For Your Skin Too

So lately I’ve been on this organic carrot-eating phase.  I used to not be able to eat carrots, but for some reason, I can eat them now.  Yay!!  It’s probably because I insist on organic, so the herbicides and pesticides are not an issue.  Whatever the reason, I’m loving it!

I don’t feel guilty one bit because fruits and vegetables are not only good for your health, they are also good for your skin.  Your skin is your largest organ, and whatever you put on it affects your entire body.   So why are carrots so good for you?

Why Are Carrots Good For You?

Carrots are loaded with beta-carotene — a nutrient that is known to help protect the skin against damage.   Your body converts beta-carotene into Vitamin A.  This vitamin helps with your eyesight.   Have you ever seen a rabbit with glasses?  I know, corny, but I just had to put this in.

Carrots also help in lowering cholesterol and the risk of cancer.   A carrot a day has been shown to cut the risk of  lung cancer in half.  And, carrots make a healthy, filling snack that is satisfying because you get to crunch on a sweet, fat-free food that is delicious.

And because carrots are loaded with beta-carotene and Vitamin A, it is excellent for your skin as it helps with wrinkles, and it keeps the skin soft and glowing.

I’m delighted to share my carrot face mask with you.   This mask will get your skin in tip-top shape.   It will help with hyperpigmentation, will brighten the skin, and will help to regenerate healthy new cells.   I even add carrot seed essential oil to my daily moisturizer for an added boost of vitamin A protection.

A Mask Made With Carrots, Honey & Lemon Is Excellent For Your Skin

Honey Carrot Face Mask

Grab 2 organic carrots and steam them until soft.   Mash  them until they’re creamy like mashed potatoes.

Add 1 tbsp. of raw or manuka honey to your carrots.  Honey is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and brings moisture to your skin.  It also softens your skin and helps the other ingredients penetrate the skin.

To the carrot/honey mixture add in 1 tbsp. of coconut, olive or avocado oil.  These oils really are excellent for nourishing and cleaning the skin without stripping it.

And lastly, add a few drops of grapefruit or lemon juice into the mixture.  If your mask is too thick at this point, just add enough water to give a consistency that is neither too thick or too runny.

How Do I Apply The Mask?

Apply this rich mixture on your face after it has been cleansed.  Avoid your eye area just like using any other kind of mask.  Allow it to remain on your face for about 10 minutes.  Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry.

Apply your favorite moisturizer.  You skin will be soft and beautiful.  With regular use (about once a week), don’t be surprised if you have your friends asking you what you’re doing to your face!

Now you know how to make a carrot face mask. Let us know how you like it on your skin.  We’d love to hear from you :-)

Cure Your Pink Eyes With Natural Home Remedies

Have you ever had a child with an eye that was itchy, red and swollen with a discharge?  Have you ever had eyelids that were closed shut when you woke up?

Chances are you and your child had what is called “pink eye” or conjunctivitis.  This eye condition is very common (and contagious), but what exactly is it and are there any natural cures for pink eye?  What is the best cure for pink eye?

You’ll be happy to know that pink eye is one of the easiest infections to cure at home.

What Is Pink Eye?

Pink eye can be caused by an infection (viral or bacterial) , allergies, chemicals, or dry eyes.  It is usually very uncomfortable.

Pink eye caused by a virus is usually left to heal on its own, with occasional treatment of antihistamines, while pink eye caused by bacteria is usually treated with antibiotics.  But let’s take a look a natural  home remedies for pink eye.

Chamomile:   Chamomile is a flowering plant of the daisy family.  It is antibacterial and antifungal, so it can really help to calm the symptoms of pink eye.  You just simply place cooled chamomile tea bags on your eyes for about 10 minutes or so.  Do this every hour or so as needed.  Or you can make a tea, let it cool and put a cotton ball in this tea.  Place the dampened cotton ball on your eyes for about 10 minutes.

Tea Made With Calendula Leaves Is Very Soothing For Pink Eye

Calendula Tea Is Very Soothing To Pink Eye Infections

Calendula:  Calendula is a plant that looks like a marigold flower, and it promotes healing due to its anti-inflammatory properties.  You can use it the same way that you use Chamomile as explained above.

Probiotics:   The most effective cure for babies is human breast milk.   If you are breastfeeding, put a drop or two of breast milk in a dropper and apply to the eyes.  You may reapply as necessary every hour or so until the infection takes a hike.  You will be amazed at how quickly the infection goes away.

If breast milk is not available, use a few drops of raw cow or goat milk, or the liquid part of yogurt instead.  Milk (raw) and yogurt are loaded with immunity boosting probiotics, just like human milk.

Milk and Honey Make A Dynamic Duo

Milk and honey:  Dilute 1/4 teaspoon of honey in 1/2 cup of warm milk, stir, and then apply about 2 drops of this mixture to your affected eyes using a dropper.  Why is this effective?  Honey has antibacterial and antifungal qualities that can help clear up conjunctivitis, and milk will soothe and calm the eyes.

Salt Water:  Salt water can help with conjunctivitis.   Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt in one cup of water. Use this mixture as an eyedrop.  Apply a few drops of this sea salt mixture in your eyes whenever they feel dried out from pink eye infection.  This will soothe the eye and help with getting rid of the infection quickly.

Tip: As conjunctivitis is extremely contagious, remember to wash your hands and often.  Don’t touch your face or eyes during the day, and also make sure your bed linens are cleaned after each use while you have the infection.  This will prevent spreading the infection to other members of your family.

If your eye infection does not go away with 24 hours or gets worse, you will probably need to see your doctor as there may be other reasons for your eye infection.

So now you have a few natural cures for pink eye.  Try them and see if any of them are the best cure for pink eye!
