Green smoothies have become very popular in the past few years. I’m sure you’ve probably had a regular fruit smoothie, but have you ever heard of a “green” smoothie? A green smoothie is a beverage consisting of green leafy vegetables and fruit. This drink has about 70% vegetables and 30% fruit. You can put just about anything in your smoothie – kale, chard, greens, lettuce, broccoli, celery, cucumbers, herbs, banana, pear, apple, and the list goes on. Are green smoothies good for weight loss? Good question. Keep reading for the answer.
What’s So Great About A Green Smoothie?
Let’s face it, most of us really don’t get enough leafy greens in our diets. If you do, congratulations to you. But the sad fact is that people will eat what is convenient, tastes good, and is inexpensive. They opt for prepackaged, man-made products that are devoid of most nutrition. No wonder diseases and illnesses are at an all-time high. And, to make matters worse, people are so busy and so engaged in other things while eating, that they really don’t take the time to chew and enjoy their food. On the other hand, when you drink a green smoothie, you are incorporating a tremendous amount of greens into your diet. It is much better than just eating a salad, for instance. Usually a green smoothie has over 2 – 3 cups of vegetables. This is more than a lot of people eat in a week. You may be surprised to learn that greens have more nutrients than any other food group, and they have amino acids that are easy for the body to use readily. As I mentioned previously, most of us don’t chew our food well enough, so green smoothies are excellent because, in order to get the most benefit from our vegetables, they need to be worked down to a creamy sort of consistency. So green smoothies really fill this requirement. It is best to start out slowly and drink about 2 cups, and then work your way up to about 3 or 4 cups. As I mentioned, most people don’t really eat many greens, so if you start out too fast, your body might not be able to handle the new amount of fiber in your diet. But, your body will soon adjust, and you can increase it. A good blender (my daughter loves the Magic Bullet for a quick treat) is definitely recommended to make this smoothie so that it’s smooth and delicious and free of large pieces of vegetables.
Will I Have Enough Time To Make A Green Smoothie Everyday?
If you think making a green smoothie is too much trouble, think again. It is actually less labor intensive than making a traditional breakfast. You can even make a big batch and store it in your refrigerator, covered, and you’ll have it ready for you the next morning. It will keep for about two or three days. You can also freeze portion sizes and then thaw the night before, and you’re ready to go.
Are Green Smoothies Good For Weight Loss?
We are at a time when there is a plethora of information about health, but yet people are more overweight and sick than ever before. No one seems to be listening to their bodies anymore – they are listening to the newest “thing” on the market, pay a lot of money for it, and then become depressed when it doesn’t work. If you clean up your body, feed it good, whole foods, and listen to it, you will be simply amazed. Your body needs cleansing in order to reach your highest potential of health and beauty. The green smoothie retains all of the fiber of the greens and fruit, and we know that fiber is important for cleansing out toxins, keeping your digestive tract clean, and also keeping you more full so that you eat less each day. If you replace one meal each day with a green smoothie, you are increasing your minerals and fiber and decreasing calories. For these reasons, green smoothies are very good for those who are trying to lose weight.
What Are Other Green Smoothie Benefits?
Your skin is your largest organ, and if you are missing vitamins and minerals, or if your body is loaded with toxins, then your skin will definitely tell on you in the way of blemishes, marks, discoloration, and dull skin. Your skin will respond if you listen to your body and give it nutrients. After drinking green smoothies regularly many are thrilled that their skin has a nice glow to it, and they are thrilled. What a nice gift!
