I really love watermelon.  It is refreshingly cold, delightfully sweet, and the green and reddish pink colors are pleasing to the eye.  And I haven’t even mentioned how healthy it is.  It is loaded with biological water with electrolytes, has lots of vitamin and minerals, beta-carotene,  is low in calories and helps to detox the kidneys – so it is excellent for not only the skin but your entire body.

I live in the southern part of the United States, and this time of year is when watermelons are very plentiful.   A Sprouts store just opened down the road from my home, so I was able to buy a small melon for less than $2.00!  I grabbed a few of them for juicing, eating, and for organic skin care.

So today, I want to share with you a very refreshing and effective homemade watermelon face mask, a watermelon toner and a watermelon exfoliator.   By combining honey with the watermelon in these recipes, you will find that your skin will feel like you’ve spent the day at a fancy spa since honey is antimicrobial and an excellent humectant. It too has vitamins and minerals and has been used for centuries by beautiful women to achieve youthful, glowing skin.  Your skin will be hydrated, vitamin infused and clearer and even toned. And it will help to repair and soothe sun-parched skin.  It is a natural anti-ager.   Here are the ingredients you will need:

Homemade Watermelon and Honey Face Mask

One small slice of watermelon (skin and all), blended to make about 1/3 cup

One tablespoon of raw honey (preferably manuka)

1/2 cup plain yogurt

Mix all ingredients together (it will be very liquidy) and apply with a cotton ball all over your cleansed face. Leave on for about 15 minutes, then rinse with warm, then cold water.  Follow up with your favorite moisturizer.

Tip – If you have sun damaged skin, add a piece of cucumber with the watermelon before blending.

Homemade Watermelon and Honey Scrub

The sun is essential to good health, but it can be taxing on your skin if you get too much of it. Watermelon will help your skin because the natural acids will exfoliate ever so gently, and the lemon juice and sugar will sloth off dead skin cells.  This one is good enough to eat!  Here’s what you will need:

One small slice of watermelon (skin and all), blended to make about 1 cup

One tablespoon of raw honey (preferably manuka)

1/2 cup sugar

Juice of one lemon

Blend all ingredients together and apply to entire body in the shower, then rinse off.  Pay special attention to elbows and other places where skin is dull and neglected.  Your skin will be smooth, nourished and glowing.

Homemade Watermelon and Honey Toner

After a day playing in the sun and enjoying the warmer weather, it is so refreshing to be able to spritz your face with a cold, vitamin infused toner.   After you use this once, you’ll want to use it all year round.  Here are the ingredients:

One small slice of watermelon (skin and all), blended to make about 1/2 cup juice.  Then strain so that you have beautiful pink watermelon water.

1/2 tablespoon of raw honey (preferably manuka)

Combine the above ingredients, then apply to your cleansed face with a cotton ball.  After the toner dries, rinse it off.  This will keep in your refrigerator up to a week, covered.  You can even put the toner in a spritzer for easy coverage.  After removing the toner, follow up with your favorite moisturizer.
