Is it possible to indulge in a cold, refreshing treat to cool off and lose weight at the same time?

Yes it is, and it’s not a dream. In fact, you can whip these popsicles up in your kitchen quickly and easily. I’m sure you are probably wondering – “What are in these popsicles that will help me lose weight?” You probably think that if they do work, they taste gross. Well, I’m here to tell you that these popsicles are the real deal, and they are effective and taste amazing.

I wrote an article entitled – “Can Honey Help You Lose Weight- Seriously?”. I received over 500 comments on this one article alone!! Many people took the plunge and tried this simple yet effective honey recipe, and they were able to lose weight. I was so pleased when people shared their success.

How were these popsicles created? Well, let me just say that I’m right smack in the middle of the blazing heat of summer here in the southern part of the United States. I don’t want to exercise, I don’t want to go outside, and I surely don’t want to drink hot tea – I want ice cream and popsicles.

Since I’m a lot less active in the sweltering heat, I look for ways to keep the “fat” away. One night I was drinking my honey and lemon weight loss tonic and thought to myself – “If I use the same ingredients in the weight loss recipe and adapt it, then I could create a popsicle that is not only refreshingly cool but will aid in weight loss as well.” And this is the moment the glorious weight loss popsicles were born.

Here are the  ingredients:

Honey

Honey is far more than a natural sweetener. It is a food with many health benefits. It contains minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, and vitamins. Besides providing many benefits to your health, honey helps flush fat from the body. This is the experience that Mike McInnes, a pharmacist and sports nutritionist who has worked with many athletes, reports.

He discovered that when the athletes ate honey, it helped them to burn fat and increase stamina. He also observed that the best time to burn fat is when you’re sleeping because this is the time when your body’s natural recovery biology is activated.  So as you’re getting your beauty sleep you’re burning fat at the same time. Nice!

His book, The Honey Diet, recommends eating one or two spoons full of honey before going to bed.

Raw Lemon juice

The juice of lemons, packed with vitamin C, is amazing for your body in a number of ways. As you probably know already, lemon juice is very acidic. Therefore, it aids in digestion and helps your body process food more effectively.  The carbs you eat will process more slowly, and this means that your blood sugar won’t go “wonky” on you.  Acid helps to lower the glycemic index of the foods you eat, and this is important in weight loss. The better your stomach breaks down food, the less work your liver must do in the digestion process. A healthier liver promotes more youthful skin and better health overall.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a warm spice that is very effective at balancing your blood sugar. Why is this so important when it comes to losing weight?

When you eat, your body releases insulin to get the sugar out of the bloodstream and into your cells. If you have been eating a not-so-good diet with lots of processed foods, the chances are that your body is not very sensitive to insulin anymore; it is resistant to it. As a result, your body has a hard time releasing the fat that has accumulated in places you hate (butt, stomach, thighs…shall I go on?)

Cinnamon jumps to the rescue by helping to balance your blood sugar and improve sensitivity to this hormone insulin, which is vital to losing weight. You have fewer mood swings, fewer cravings, and your body can become more of a fat burner instead of a fat storer.

Berries

Berries are a whole food. They are naturally sweet, high in fiber, low in calories, and are low on the glycemic index for fruit. They are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants that help protect you from disease and premature aging. Because of the high fiber content, they help slow down the absorption of the sugar in the fruit. And berries taste good too. No wonder fruit is termed “nature’s candy”.

Okay, now armed with these ingredients, let whip up some weight loss popsicles.

The Recipe – DIY Honey Weight Loss Popsicles

• 1 cup Water
• 1/2 cup raw lemon juice
• 1/3 cup honey (Here is a good one to buy if you can’t find something local — honey.) Also, you can use less or more depending on your sweet preference.
• 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
• Berries of your choice (optional)
• You’ll also need a popsicle mold.

Preparation

1. Mix the water, honey, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl until well combined. Set aside.
2. Take your popsicle mold and place a few berries (maybe 3 or 4 blueberries as an example) in the bottom of each section.
3. Fill each mold with the liquid mixture and then insert a stick in each popsicle.
4. Freeze until frozen.

These are yummy, refreshing and help you lose weight. They are also excellent as a body detoxer.

When Should I Eat These Popsicles For The Greatest Benefit?

If you want to use these for weight loss, the best time to eat them would be on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. I’ll usually eat a pre-breakfast popsicle about an hour before breakfast. The wonderful thing about these popsicles is that they tend to control my appetite so that I am not all that hungry. At the end of the day, I’ll also eat a popsicle (or two) as a dessert before going to bed. Of course, I will also indulge in popsicles during the day when it is way too hot to eat a heavy dessert or treat. This schedule gives me the best benefit.

If you decide to try these, please let us know in the comments section how much you enjoyed them and whether you were able to lose weight with these delicious DIY popsicles.
